Kylie Minogue sets hearts racing
Aussie pop diva Kylie Minogue pulls off stunning performance at S'pore Grand Prix on Friday night
Despite a bumpy start for pop queen Kylie Minogue at the 2016 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix on Friday night, she eventually delivered one of the event's most memorable gigs.
Opening with lesser-known song Better The Devil You Know, the 48-year-old Australian initially struggled to excite the crowd at the Padang Stage.
But she soon won over the estimated 40,000 spectators with her charm.
"I am not the only one melting in this heat, right? Just reassure me," Minogue asked the audience in her lilting accent, leading them to cheer in response.
By the end of the night, she had the crowd jiving to her flirty and catchy tunes such as Locomotion and Celebration.
Banker Kazuo Nakamura, 37, was watching Minogue in concert for the second time. He had caught her live in Hong Kong in 2010.
"My Singaporean girlfriend could not stop laughing when Kylie said she would definitely return to Singapore for more chicken and rice (instead of chicken rice)," the Singapore resident said.
"There was great energy and fun, and the crowd did a good job of singing along."
Here are three reasons why Minogue's concert will be hard to forget.
SHE WAS SEXY
Minogue is one sultry goddess even as she is pushing 50.
The 1.52m-tall diva looked positively taller showing off her shapely legs.
Whether in a red halter-neck dress or a denim jacket-and-shorts combo, her famous pins were the star of the show.
But she never strayed into trashy territory - all her outfits were high-fashion and classy.
We never saw Minogue in the hot pants from her Light Years album, but she perhaps has wisely recognised that less is not more at her age.
HER DISCO FEVER WAS INFECTIOUS
The crowd was visibly excited when three giant disco balls descended from the top of the stage during Minogue's hit On A Night Like This.
EDM (electronic dance music) may rule the clubs today, but there is nothing like disco music for a good ol' fashioned boogie.
We were treated to groovy hits such as Spinning Around, Can't Get You Out Of My Head and, naturally, Your Disco Needs You.
The audience clearly loved the funky rhythms, shimmying along and waving their hands in the air.
IT HAD SPECTACLE AND HEART
No expense was spared in putting on this spectacular show.
The visuals that accompanied Minogue were so arresting that there were times we stared at them rather than at her.
There were images of melting clocks in the style of surrealist artist Salvador Dali for Timebomb, and footage of Minogue dressed in candy-coloured hues and pouting for the camera for party hit Celebration.
During finale song All The Lovers, the audience were showered with white confetti, which blanketed the Padang and made it look like it was snowing in our tropical climate.
Not one to hide behind grand sets, Minogue sang an acoustic version of her disco hit I Believe In You, revealing her sweet and vulnerable side and lusciously twee vocals.
All in all, it was a gig that melted the Singapore audience's hearts and ensured that they did not sweat in vain.
