DPMM's Kean sounds a warning

He received just as much attention sitting on the bench as his players did out on the field.

And DPMM boss Steve Kean is determined to stay in the spotlight, after his men opened their Great Eastern-Yeo's S.League campaign with a 1-0 win over Albirex Niigata at the Jurong East Stadium last night.

In front of a crowd of 1,818, the Brunei outfit (in yellow) edged out their Japanese opponents 1-0 courtesy of a 14th min Rodrigo Tosi penalty.

"There's more to come from us," Kean boldly proclaimed, after the game.

"We were disciplined in defence, although I felt that we could have passed the ball better, but I'm happy with how we played."

DPMM went into the game will all five foreign signings on show and they set the tempo from the outset.

BROUGHT DOWN

Tosi and Roberto Alviz were easy on the eye with their interchanges, and after one flowing move, Tosi was brought down in the box by Albirex custodian Kazuki Kishigami.

Tosi picked himself up and calmly stroked home the penalty.

Albirex improved in the second half, but simply could not find a way past visiting goalkeeper Azman Ilham.

DPMM continued to venture forward, but Roy O'Donovan, who like his coach has Premier League experience, squandered a couple of chances.

"He's only trained with us a short while, so give him time to get fully settled in," said Kean.

"His combination with Tosi could prove to be very good for us."

Kean, insisted he has a good enough squad to mount a serious challenge for both the S.League title as well as the cup competitions.

"It's not about my reputation," he said.

"I'm here to help the club win games, and win trophies.

"And I think we've got the squad to do that."
