Can Nadal win a 10th French Open title? Guess what his uncle feels...
With nine French Open titles in the bag, Rafael Nadal will be looking to add another title from Roland Garros next year.
But Toni Nadal, his coach and uncle, was quick to put a lid on that suggestion.
He believes that winning a 10th may be beyond even the famed super powers of his athletic nephew, AFP reported.
“What I hope now for him is to win it for a 10th time,” said Toni.
“But I know that it will be more and more difficult, even almost impossible. Each year the chances of victory are reduced. Next year, we will arrive with the fear of losing, telling ourselves it’ll be really hard.”
The 28-year-old world No 1 himself believes that the golden generation of himself, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray could be in its death throes.
He said: “I am 28, it’s not forever. I want to enjoy the moment because I have worked so hard to be here.
“I will have a few more opportunities but you don’t know if I will ever win it again,” said Nadal, who collapsed on his knees (below) after a Djokovic double fault ended the match.
That’s why he is focused on doing better than his first round loss at Wimbledon last year, BBC reported.
“I want to try to play well again in Wimbledon,” BBC quoted him as saying.
“I’m healthy. That’s the most important thing.”
