An assist worth its weight in goal
Who doesn't love a wonder goal?
There are bicycle kicks, there are cheeky nudges and dramatic strikes from the halfway line.
But Chievo’s Riccardo Meggiorini showed that assists can be jaw-dropping too, in the match against Lazio on Sunday.
In the 30th minute, Meggiorini slid across the byline to backheel a long ball into the penalty box, which was turned into goal by Alberto Paloschi.
That was the second goal in Chievo’s 4-0 win, which propelled them to the top of Serie A.
The high-flying Flying Donkeys’ next match, after the international break, is against ailing defending champions Juventus, who have lost both their opening matches,
On the clash against two clubs who have swopped their usual positions on the league table, Meggiorini said it makes him laugh.
Said the 29-year-old: “Two games count for little.”
