Myanmar football team flying high after beating Indonesia 4-2
The Myanmar Under-23 football team issued a real statement of intent on Tuesday evening as they opened their 2015 South-east Asia Games Group A campaign with a 4-2 triumph over Indonesia.
Goals from Shine Thura (21st minute) and Sithu Aung (38th min) had put Myanmar in control of proceedings at the Bishan Stadium, but Abduh Lestaluhu struck just before the break to give the Indonesians a glimmer of hope.
Nonetheless, Kyi Lwin’s charges were never in danger of losing the tie. They extended their advantage through Sithu's (54th min) and Kyaw Zin Lwin's (66th min) strikes, before Ahmad Noviandani netted 20 minutes from time to restore some pride for Indonesia.
The victory sent Myanmar top of Group A ahead of Thursday’s crunch clash with hosts Singapore, who are also on three points after beating the Philippines 1-0 on Monday.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s next match will be on Saturday, when they take on Cambodia.
Over in Group B, Vietnam maintained their 100 per cent record in the tournament after thumping Malaysia 5-1.
