Sorry EPL! Rodriguez wants Real Madrid move
Any English Premier League fan hoping to see livewire James Rodriguez don their club's jersey next season is in for some heartbreak.
The Monaco playmaker, who is making waves at the World Cup in Brazil with his virtuoso displays for Colombia, has spoken of his desire to play in La Liga and, in particular, Real Madrid.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, the 22-year-old said: "It's a dream to play in Spain one day.
"If I get to play there, it will fulfil a dream."
When asked if he preferred a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid, Rodriguez pinned his colours to the mast by adding: "I like Madrid."
£5 million in 2010
To make matters worse for Manchester United fans in particular, the Guardian has reported that the Red Devils were offered Rodriguez for a mere £5 million ($10.6m) back in 2010.
Despite helping Argentinean side Club Atletico Banfield to their first league title in 2009 at the age of 18, United politely turned down intermediaries representing Rodriguez and opted for an even bigger gamble in...Bebe.
Needless to say, that won't go down as one of Sir Alex Ferguson's greatest moments of glory.
Rodriguez joined Monaco from Porto for 45 million euros ($61 million) and scored a brace to take Colombia past Uruguay in the Round of 16 in a 2-0 win on Sunday morning (June 29, Singapore time).
Popularly known as James (pronounced ‘HAM-es’), the midfielder is the leading candidate for the Golden Boot with five goals.
