Pair end S'pore's 20-year wait for squash gold
Singapore squash players Marcus Phua and Vivian Rhamanan won the men's jumbo doubles final after beating Indonesians Ade Furkon and Sandi A. Perdana at the Tanglin Club on Monday (June 15).
Phua, 26, and Rhamanan, 29 defeated Furkon, 34, and Perdana, 30, in straight sets, winning 11-3 and 11-8 to clinch Singapore's only gold in squash at this year's SEA Games.
Their win ended a 20-year SEA Games gold drought for Singapore squash.
Singapore last won the women's individual and men's team events at the 1995 SEA Games in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Earlier in the day, Singapore had beaten Thailand's pair of Phuwis Poonsiri and C. Tangjaitrong 11-6, 11-2 to qualify for the final.
