Singapore rhythmic gymnasts win gold
In a historic first, Singapore's rhythmic gymnasts struck gold on Sunday after putting up a beautiful performance in the group all-round final at Bishan Sports Hall.
The hosts had not earned a gold medal in rhythmic gymnastics at the SEA Games before.
The crowd, mostly made up of Singapore's fans, exploded into cheers when the hosts scored 14.35 points in the five ribbons routine, which was the first part of the two-part final.
The score meant they were leading their two competitors, with Malaysia in second place after scoring 12.85 points and Thailand in the last position with 9.50 points.
Singapore followed up its first performance with another strong showing for the second one, scoring 13.35 points in the six clubs and two hoops routine. Their combined score from both routines was 27.70 points, securing them the gold.
Malaysia scored higher for their second routine with 14.55 points, but did not manage to overtake Singapore.
They clinched the silver medal, while Thailand did not get a medal as there were only three competitors.
