Movie Review: Return Of The Cuckoo (PG)
Never mind if you haven't watched the 2000 TV series of the same name that inspired this movie spin-off.
Hong Kong romance Return Of The Cuckoo, set in Macau, boasts an uncomplicated storyline.
Old friends Man Cho (Julian Cheung) and Kwan-Ho (Charmaine Sheh) are reunited when the latter, having migrated to the US, suddenly appears at her mum's (Nancy Sit) birthday party.
It doesn't take long before Man Cho realises that Kwan-Ho is suffering from severe depression following the death of her husband and children in an accident.
He foils her suicide attempt and encourages her to get back on her feet. Soon, they fall in love.
Fans of Cheung and Sheh, as well as suckers for soap operas, will enjoy the duo's solid acting.
For viewers with more discerning tastes, the film might come across as cheesy and melodramatic.
RATING: 3/5
