Movie Review: Risen (PG13)
It's refreshing to see the Easter story retold from the Roman's point of view.
In Risen, Roman tribune Clavius (Joseph Fiennes) is tasked with investigating the missing body of the recently-crucified Jesus (Cliff Curtis).
Under pressure from Roman prefect Pontius Pilate (Peter Firth), the cynical Clavius pooh-poohs the idea that Jesus has risen from the dead - until he encounters the beatific messiah himself.
Fiennes is suitably charismatic as Clavius, a battle-weary hero searching for deeper meaning to life. Special credit must also go to Curtis for portraying Jesus with great gentleness and mystery.
Sensitively filmed with some flashes of violence and gore to keep things interesting, Risen is a great resurrection movie for curious non-believers and Christians alike.
