Hot tracks
From Niall Horan to Train, here are the hottest tracks that were recently dropped.
NIALL HORAN - THIS TOWN
I thought there would be more fireworks when One Direction disbanded. Instead, there's Horan, with a Mumford & Sons-esque acoustic number.
Boy band music aside, the Irish pop singer's single holds up surprisingly well. Horan's voice is not spectacular, but it blends in nicely with the strumming of the guitar.
The song is melancholic, and authenticity rings clear through its smooth melody.
All in all, This Town is not a bad song, but it seems like a weak way to kick-start a solo career.
DNCE - BODY MOVES
The songs from this US funk-rock band never seem to stray too far from one another, but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
As the lead single for DNCE's upcoming album, they've played it safe, picking out elements that made hits out of Cake By The Ocean and Toothbrush, while also keeping the song good for easy listening on the radio.
With its funky and upbeat tune, this song is DNCE finding their groove.
TRAIN - PLAY THAT SONG
Of all the things I'd have expected from US roots rock band Train, a showtune that sounds straight out of a musical is not one of them.
Play That Song feels like it should be sung on a Broadway stage to a carefully choreographed routine. It's a happy, carefree jingle filled with strong drum beats to bring the rhythm; it's unique in a sea of heavy synths and slow ballads.
The lyrics are unserious without being meaningless, fun but not nonsensical.
It's not a typical rock song, but a gem nonetheless.
