Thai rock band Slot Machine goes English
After more than 15 years of hard work, the four men of Thai band Slot Machine are more than ready to take on the world.
The band are releasing their first all-English album — after six successful albums in Thai — produced by six-time Grammy award-winning producer Steve Lillywhite, who has worked with huge rock names such as U2, The Rolling Stones and 30 Seconds to Mars.
The 10-track album, Spin The World, features singles Give It All To You and I Know I Know.
"We are so excited. It is a huge step for us," said bassist Gak.
The four-piece band is made up of frontman Karinyawat Durongjirakan (Foet), 31, drummer Settharat Phangchunan (Auto), 32, guitarist Janevit Chanpanyawong (Vit), 32, and bassist Atirath Pintong (Gak), 31.
They recently concluded their tour in Taiwan and the United Kingdom and were in Singapore in January for the Prudential Eye Awards, receiving an award for Visual and Popular Culture.
The band prides itself on presenting rock in a new sound - which the band describes as "Thai oriental" — a kind of rock that you can find yourself dancing to.
Frontman Foet tells TNP the name Slot Machine was supposed to reflect the energy of rock music. To the band, the name represents controlled chaos and infinite possibilities to their creativity.
First formed in 2000, Slot Machine has an impressive track record. They were the opening act for American rock band Linkin Park for their 2006 Bangkok concert.
They had also been nominated as "Best South-east Asian Act" at the MTV Europe Music Awards for two consecutive years in 2013 and 2014.

All members took part in writing the song I Know I Know, which is about getting through difficulties in life.
The music video was filmed at the Kaeng Krachan National Park near the border with Myanmar.
Foet admitted to nerves before filming because it was the first time he had to act in a music video.
"The rest of us just walked around on set, looking cool," Gak said with a chuckle.

Spin The World will be available on March 18.
