Come in Kangkong Commander! Mr Brown gives his take on air force Singlish
"Gentlemen, activate Air Force Singlish mode, now!"
If you haven't watched Mr Brown's latest podcast, drop everything you're doing and watch this video.
It's based on an unverified claim made by an unnamed Singapore air force regular on several local websites including The Online Citizen. He wrote that F-16 pilots from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) outsmarted their US counterparts during a joint exercise by using Singlish.
The anonymous writer claimed that after enduring three straight days of getting ambushed by US F-15s, the Singaporean pilots deduced that the US pilots were listening in on their radio conversations.
To counter this, the RSAF pilots did what they knew best - they switched to Singlish.
The tactic worked a charm. The Americans, probably confused by the ensuing mish-mash of English, Hokkien and Malay flooding the comm waves, failed to find a way past the RSAF pilots' defensive screen for the remaining three days of the exercise.
Whether true or otherwise, this story has clearly stoked the imagination of Singaporeans and given birth to this comedic gem from Mr Brown.
