DJ TIESTO
GOD IS A DJ
Starting off with a trance groove, Tiesto's remix of the Faithless classic moves into a future house vibe, with very cool results.
While we prefer the subtlety of the original from the British electronica group, the Dutch DJ's more strident, pounding version will probably go down well in the clubs. Tiesto makes the melody line more pronounced, with punchier beats.
Lines like "This is my church, this is where I heal my hurts" are surprisingly philosophical - it's no wonder this is such a well-loved song.
ONE DIRECTION
PERFECT
Is 1D's latest single really about US pop star Taylor Swift, Harry Styles' ex-girlfriend?
Speculation has been rife, but the UK boy band member has kept mum about her identity, calling it a "spontaneous love song" that "doesn't have to be an exact story".
No matter. Perfect is the kind of breezy pop tune Directioners have come to expect from the boys. Styles sings about his perfect lady during the chorus, and the driving beat and mellow electric guitar riffs make for fun listening.
CIARA
PAINT IT, BLACK
The classic rock hit from The Rolling Stones gets a modern makeover courtesy of US R&B singer Ciara , who delivers an absolutely smashing rendition of it.
Featured on the soundtrack of The Last Witch Hunter, Paint It, Black makes full use of her lusty, smooth vocals. The end result is like a mash-up between Lorde and Aaliyah - pure, dark sexiness.
