High-speed chase ends with crash
Man speeds through roadblock to evade police
He was approaching a police road block.
But when the police officers signalled for him to slow down, he sped through instead.
What ensued was a high-speed police chase that ended with the vehicle crashing into another at a road junction, then speeding away.
During the 3.2km chase, the driver also ran four red lights.
He was eventually arrested a few hours later - at about 5.15am - in Woodlands Drive 44. The incident started at about 2.10am last Sunday.
According to the police, the suspect, a 41-year-old man, was driving a silver-coloured van with the headlights off when he approached the police roadblock on Clementi Loop.
SPED OFF
Instead of stopping, he sped off, in the direction of Ayer Rajah Expressway.
The police said that their officers, who were from the Clementi Police Division, immediately gave chase.
In an attempt to shake them off, the suspect ran the red lights.
The van eventually came to a halt - at least temporarily - when he crashed into another vehicle at the junction of Boon Lay Way and Toh Guan Road, 3.2km away from the roadblock .
Police officers stopped to help the driver of the other vehicle, and the suspect sped away. But he was arrested later that morning in Woodlands.
Follow-up investigations revealed his identity.
The damaged van was also recovered.
The suspect faces a charge of rash driving on public roads.
If convicted, he can be jailed for up to one year and/or fined.
Police are also investigating other offences of failing to stop when ordered by a police officer, driving without a valid driving licence, driving without insurance coverage and failing to stop after an accident.
