Finalists of The New Paper New Face juggle studies, trainings, rehearsals
With her O levels looming, The New Paper New Face finalist Diya Prabhakar has been juggling her studies, rehearsals and fittings leading up to the Grand Final tonight at Takashimaya Square.
Her first paper, elementary mathematics, is on Oct 17.
Diya told The New Paper that she would take her notes to rehearsals to study. Sometimes, she would even study during her bus ride home.
She said: "I've sacrificed my computer time for studying and rehearsals.
"I've also had to cancel on my friends for study time, but thankfully, they're all very understanding."
Also performing the juggling act is Singapore Sports School student Iman Fandi Ahmad, 14.
Her End Of Year Examinations kicks off with the English Language on Oct 23.
She said: "When I had rehearsals, those were the days that I would miss school, which was a sacrifice for me. But I was willing to do it to prove that I can manage both my studies and my personal life."
The girls had a hectic day of fitting for their outfits during the rehearsals on Tuesday at Takashimaya Square.
Diya rushed there from school, making it just in time for the first fitting at 2 pm.
She said: "The school knows that I have part-time modelling jobs and sometimes I have to leave earlier, so they are fine with it as long as my parents pick me up from school."
By the time the stage rehearsal started at 9pm, most of them looked tired, but they did their best to smile and look confident as they walked down the runway.
Finalist Jun Minook, 17, found the rehearsal tiring but enjoyable.
She said: "Walking down the runway in heels, I had to be careful not to trip or fall off."
Aurelia Ng, 21, found her first experience on the runway exciting.
She said: "I tried not think about falling. Instead, I focused on the positive things such as the audience's attention on me."
