Three Singapore-made videos that will make you smile
Local stories about rude bus drivers and artworks of crying children rejected by the National Gallery have made the rounds this week.
So forget that the weekend is almost over, here's a reason to smile .
After all, not everything in Singapore is bleak!
Below are three Singapore-made videos to help you show off those pearly whites.
1. Dancer in the dark
Who hasn't danced in private before? Local band Stopgap takes this to a new level with their music video for their song Nervous.
The song is catchy enough but it's Irsyad Sidharta that's the real star of the video as he plays the dancing cleaner at local indie cinema The Projector.
There are shades of Christopher Walken's classic hotel lobby prancing for Fatboy Slim here.
But Irsyad's moves actually could even make you forget Drake's oh-so-sexy dad moves in the famous Hotline Bling video.
Drake, who?
2. Smiles and tears
Adele is not the only one who can make you shed a tear or two over wistful nostalgia.
This video will bring a smile to your face. But we warn you now, it will hit you in the feels.
Get ready to claim there is dust in the air or onion ninjas because you will get the old hot eyes.
This SG50 video First Kisses, directed by acclaimed local director Royston Tan, shows 50 Singaporean couples revisiting the locations of their old and most treasured photographs.
You know, from back when you only took one picture and had to wait weeks before you even got to see if it turned out okay.
This does not only include romantic couples — but also family members like grandson and grandmother, mother and son, and cousins.
It is such a simple idea but done beautifully. It cannot fail to raise a smile
One of the couples, Donald and Ser Cher, recall that even in defeat, there is much to be gained.
Donald said: "I was here (at the Padang) representing my camp to take part in the telematch organised by the Singapore Armed Forces.
"Although I didn't win the telematch, I won something else. I won my first kiss from my wife," he says as he holds a picture of them taken at the Padang in 1987.
3. Unbelievably good
Who can forget Chen Tianwen's popular viral track Unbelievable?
Everyone was — if not full-throated singing — murmuring it or absent-mindedly singing it under their breath a few months ago.
Even if you hated it, you have to admit that it has been the catchiest song to come out of Singapore for, well, ever? There's even the movie of the song Mr Unbelievable out now.
Local band, Cashew Chemists, has also chosen to pay homage to the track and they have kept the dead pan seriousness — and hand movements — while obviously having some fun with it.
Not only does it sound great, the video itself captures the track's eccentricities in the most subtle way.
Filmed for radio station Lush 99.5 FM, the video shows the band performing with the star of the show, stone-faced DJ Elias Soh in the foreground.
