Video shows SCDF trainees trashing dorm room
A video uploaded on Facebook yesterday shows more than a dozen Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) trainees trashing a 16-bunk room in the Civil Defence Academy at 101 Jalan Bahar.
Some could be seen smoking, which is not allowed in the dormitory, and laughing in the one-minute video, which was uploaded by a Facebook user named Han Din at 4pm yesterday.
A person is heard narrating at the start of the video: "It's the last day man, look at the dorm, it's a ruckus."
The trainees, believed to be sergeants based on their uniforms, can be heard using profanities and are seen tossing items around.
One is seen throwing items into a pile of broken bunk beds, fans, chairs and cupboards.
Another is seen pouring out the contents of a drink packet and then tossing it into the pile.
Mattresses and pillows are strewn on the floor.
Halfway through the video, a trainee grabs an ironing board and tosses it to the other side of the room as the others laugh and joke.
The SCDF issued a statement on its Facebook page about the video yesterday evening.
"There is a short video clip being circulated online this evening which depicted unruly behaviour by a few SCDF personnel in a dormitory," it said.
"SCDF takes a serious view on the matter and has already commenced investigation. Disciplinary action will be taken against those who are involved."
Many have commented on the statement, urging quick and harsh action, on SCDF's Facebook page.
'DISGRACEFUL'
Facebook user Kamal Salleh said: "These guys are not fit to become Section Commanders.
"Disgraceful behaviour and childish. Whoever is involved, please punish them severely."
Another user, Shafiee Benjamin, said: "Anger is the only emotion that I can feel right now. I am always proud of wearing the blue uniform, and all of us take pride in our work.
"Pity the firemen who are already in stations with vast experience having to deal with stereotypical perceptions from the public."
The video had more than 45,000 views before it was taken down at about 11pm. But copies of the video are still circulating online.
