Doctor jailed for molesting male patient
Patient, a fellow doctor, was drugged and had his private parts photographed
He lured his patient - a fellow male doctor - to a hotel room and, on two separate nights, knocked him out with stupefying drug Dormicum.
Medical doctor and partner at Life Source Medical Practice Tan Kok Leong, now 50, then snapped over 20 photographs of his victim's private parts without the latter's knowledge or consent.
Some showed Tan either touching or holding the Malaysian man's private parts with his bare hands. He was sentenced to 3½ years' jail yesterday after an 18-day trial.
Last month, Tan was found guilty of two counts each of outrage of modesty and administering the stupefying drug to commit the offence.
Court documents showed that Tan specialises in aesthetic medicine and performed liposuction on the victim, 33, in 2013.
Tan performed the procedure at his clinic at the Novena Medical Centre at Sinaran Drive.
After the procedure on July 5 that year, Tan told his victim that he had booked a room at the nearby Oasia Hotel for him to recuperate.
At around 11pm in the room, he administered Dormicum and Rosiden, a painkiller, to his patient intravenously.
When his victim was unconscious, Tan pulled down the man's shorts and touched his private parts. He also snapped pictures of them. He dressed his victim after committing the offences.
COMMITTED SAME OFFENCES
Tan performed liposuction a second time on the man the next day. They then went back to the hotel and he committed the same offences again.
He did not show his victim any of the photographs he had taken.
Tan's offences only came to light when he asked his then-partner at the clinic, Dr Gerald Tan, to transfer some videos from his mobile phone.
The latter found the incriminating pictures and alerted the victim, who made a police report on Aug 13, 2013. Officers arrested Tan two days later.
In the sentencing submissions, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Alan Loh urged District Judge Siva Shanmugam to jail Tan for at least five years and eight months.
DPP Loh said: "The victim also suffered psychologically as a result of the offence. He stated that the incident 'had forever left a scar within him'.
"He was also fearful that he may have been the victim of other sexual assaults by the accused which had not been photographed and had been forced to move houses in order to avoid the accused."
Tan will be appealing against his conviction and sentence. He was offered a bail of $40,000.
For each count of administering the drug, he could have been jailed up to 10 years.
And for each count of outrage of modesty, he could have been jailed up to two years and fined. He cannot be caned as he is already 50 years old.
