Intern caught filming women in company toilet
Nanyang Polytechnic student Teo Wei Xiang, 21, was given 30 months' probation yesterday after recording 30 videos of women in his office toilet.
He was an intern at an aerospace firm in the north-eastern part of Singapore and at least two of his victims were his colleagues.
Teo, now a full-time national serviceman, pleaded guilty to seven counts of insulting a woman's modesty. Twenty-six other charges for the same offence and one count each of being in possession of obscene and uncertified films were taken into consideration during sentencing.
He had also recorded upskirt videos of women on an escalator at an unknown location and in a bookshop.
SPREE
Teo started his crime spree on Sept 8, 2014, when he recorded an upskirt video of a woman in a meeting room of the aerospace company.
He then struck at its female toilet and recorded eight videos on Sept 24 and seven on Oct 3.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nicholas Lai said Teo would tail women into the toilet and slip into the cubicle beside theirs. He would then record a video by placing his mobile phone either under or over the divider.
Teo was finally caught at around 8.45am on Oct 9, 2014, when one of his victims looked up while she was in a toilet cubicle and saw his hands holding his mobile phone, pointing in her direction. She screamed and chased after him when he ran out.
Teo told police officers he had entered the female toilet by accident.
For each count of insulting a woman's modesty, he could have been jailed up to a year and fined.
