Preparing students for in-demand careers
UniSIM to launch five new programmes
A person's brain development is most rapid in the early years.
Children who receive assistance in their early years also achieve more success at school, according to various reports.
SIM University (UniSIM) is addressing demand for training in the field with a new undergraduate programme, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education with Minor, to start in July 2017.
"Early childhood education is an in-demand multi-disciplinary career around the world as governments are now paying greater attention to the healthy growth and development of young children," said Ms Serene Lim, director of the office of admissions at UniSIM.
"Recent research has shown that when governments invest more in the lives of young children, especially those in poverty and neglect, the investment can result in a healthier, more educated and employable adult population."
The degree is a direct-honours teacher preparation programme and will take four years to complete.
Next July, UniSIM will also be welcoming its pioneer batch of graduate students keen to hone their skills in intellectual property (IP) management.
Ms Lim said the Master in IP and Innovation Management programme is for professionals and mid-careerists who are interested in transiting into the IP industry, upgrading to value-add in their organisations or seeking to enhance their competencies.
"There is a growing need for professionals and IP firms to provide services such as patent drafting, IP management and IP technology advisory services."
She added: "Companies also need to develop in-house IP capabilities to support business decision-making and growth."
ACCREDITED
The Master in IP and Innovation Management is a two-year programme, and its courses are accredited under the IP Competency Framework (IPCF) developed by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (Ipos). They are developed in partnership with Ipos' education and training arm, IP Academy.
These are two of five new programmes UniSIM is introducing. The others are: Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics with Minor, Bachelor of Arts in Translation with Minors and Master of Applied Research in Social Sciences.
Interested students can attend briefings to find out more about these programmes from faculty members at UniSIM's upcoming open house on Feb 25 next year.
Potential students can also chat with the university's student or alumni ambassadors, who will share their learning experiences.
The open house will be held at UniSIM's Clementi Road campus, and between 1,000 and 1,200 people are expected to turn up at the event.
Interested individuals may pre-register for the programme briefings at unisim.edu.sg/OH.
Another open house will be held in the second half of next year.
