Tree planted at Gardens by the Bay in honour of Mr Lee Kuan Yew
Mr Lee Kuan Yew was the visionary behind Singapore as a Garden City.
So it is only fitting that Gardens by the Bay planted a tree in his honour, as a tribute to "Singapore Chief gardener and Father of the Garden City vision, Mr Lee Kuan Yew".
A Sepetir daun tebal was planted at the Golden Garden near the main entrance to the Gardens by the Bay.
The young tree, a species native to Singapore's primary forests, was meant to have been planted by Mr Lee during a visit he was planning to make earlier this year.
Earlier this week, a new specimen of orchid was named the Aranda Lee Kuan Yew in honour of Singapore's first prime minister.
It is a bright golden yellow flower, with a green tinge, and is from the same line that yielded one named after his wife, the Vanda Kwa Geok Choo.
The orchid was presented to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday by NParks chief executive Kenneth Er and National Orchid Gardens nursery manager David Lim.
