Manu Bennett, who plays Azog in The Hobbit movie trilogy, was arrested on Sunday (Sept 13) for a misdemeanor assault during his trip to Texas to attend the Alamo City Comic Con.

According to CNN, the 45-year-old actor had apparently punched a 29-year-old man in the face at a hotel party.

No details have been given on why Bennett attacked the man at the Grand Hyatt hotel in San Antonio, according for Variety.

CNN had reached out to Bennett's lawyers and publicist but has had no reply from them.

Bennett, who was born in New Zealand, had attended Comic Con on Saturday (Sept 12), an event which is popular with fantasy and comic book fans.

Mail Online reported that he was released on Sunday itself after he posted the bond of US$1,600 (S$2,200).

Apart from playing the Azog the Defiler (above) in The Hobbit trilogy, Bennett also played the gladiator Crixus in the TV series Spartacus, Slade Wilson/Deathstroke in TV series Arrow and is also set to appear as Allanon in the upcoming MTV series The Shannara Chronicles.
