Little Angie adjusting to life at JB children's home
Her father is believed to have "sold" her to a Singaporean couple through a middleman.
The couple handed Angie to the authorities.
Now, toddler Angie Tiong has been adapting well to her new environment at a government-sanctioned child protection home in Johor Baru.
State Welfare Department officer Manayi Ibrahim said Angie was "getting along fine" at the home, surrounded by 29 other children aged between one month and 11 years old.
"Although there is a bit of a language barrier, as Angie only speaks Mandarin, she has been responding well and plays with the other children.
"They all love and adore her," he said when contacted on Thursday, Malaysia's The Star reported.
Mr Manayi added that the home's environment was similar to a nursery, with activities carried out daily for the children.
The two-year-old will be under the care of the home for a month, the New Straits Times reported.
He said neither members of Angie's biological family nor her adoptive parents in Singapore have attempted to visit the girl since she was put under the department's custody on Monday.
Johor CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Kamarul Zaman Mamat said that those who were detained for questioning have been released since Dec 30.
