Teen illegally climbs Pyramid to take this shot
A German teenager illegally climbed the 4,500-year-old Great Pyramid in Egypt so that he could post the photos and videos of the risky adventure on his blog.
Andrej Ciesielski, 18, said he went to Cairothen hired a taxi to take him to Giza, reported USA Today.
He knew that climbing the oldest and largest of the three pyramids there could result in a three-year jail term or something far worse if he fell.
But he said he thought the photos would be worth the risk, reported The Telegraph.
"Walking around in the complex, I was waiting for the right moment to start climbing The Great Pyramid of Giza.
"When I started climbing, a street seller was standing behind me, but I didn't care about him, I turned around, he laughed and I continued climbing," Mr Cieselski wrote in his blog post.
He was about halfway up the 139m structure when the police finally spotted him.
But Mr Cieselski, who said he had a GoPro camera, continued to climb.
"They shouted something in Arabic I think, but I didn't care and kept going while listening to music," he said.
He said it took him about eight minutes to reach the top.
"It was absolutely surreal standing on top of one of the wonders of the world and something that I'll never forget. I wanted to experience Egyptian culture and I definitely managed that," Mr Cieselski told the Telegraph.
The Egyptian police were waiting for him when he descended and he was taken into police custody.
He said that he was released and that the police did not press any charges, on condition that he delete all photographic evidence of his climb.
Unbeknown to the police, Mr Ciesielski had software that allowed him to recover the deleted images.
"Some people were really angry, but I don't care," Mr Ciesielski said of his climb.
"I didn't destroy anything. I didn't hurt anyone."
In 2013, some Russian tourists climbed the pyramids at night and posted photos of their illegal climb. But they apologised later for their act, unlike this delinquent teenager.
