SG's most recent gruesome murders
A legless body was found in a suitcase Wednesday along Syed Alwi Road, the latest in a string of recent gruesome murder cases here.
We run down six of the most shocking:
1. Legless body
The gruesome discovery was made at about 6pm on Wednesday by a karung guni man, who had found the suitcase and wanted to sell it but found that it was too heavy to carry. Two men helped the karung guni man only to realise their hands were soon covered in blood. Police have now classified the case as an unnatural death and are investigating.

2. Headless body
Madam Kaur’s headless body was found in Whampoa River in Dec 2013. The police went on the hunt for her husband, who left the country through Woodlands checkpoint half an hour before his wife’s body was found. Forklift driver Gursharan Singh, 25, was charged with her murder, while the husband, Harvinder Singh, is on Interpol's wanted list.

3. Tampines stabbing
In Nov 2013, an Indonesian domestic helper allegedly stabbed her employer’s 16-year-old daughter twice and watched as she bled to death in the family's Tampines flat.

4. Kovan double murder
The body of a man, identified as 42-year-old Tan Chee Heong, was found on the road outside Kovan MRT station in July 2013. He had been dragged under a car for about 1km. A blood trail led to his father’s house in Hillside Drive, where his father, Mr Tan Boon Sin, 67, was found dead with slash wounds. Former police officer Iskandar Rahmat, 34, was arrested by Malaysian police at a Johor Baru restaurant. He was repatriated and charged with two counts of murder. He faces the death penalty.

5. Park stabbing
A full-time national serviceman Soh Wee Kian stabbed four women in 2010. One of whom, a mother of two who was killed. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. He followed young women for short distances, sometimes stopping when they went into a lift or got close to their school. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to another woman, Ms How Poh Ling, who had been the third victim in his series of attacks.

6. Woman in cardboard box
Ms Yulia Afriyanti, is alleged to have died at the hands of her lover in a crime of passion. The 25-year-old was found naked, stuffed in a cardboard box in the uncompleted Viz@Holland condominium in Queensway on Dec 16, 2007. She had been strangled by construction worker Kamrul Hasan Abdul Quddus, 35, a Bangladeshi national who worked at the site. Ms Yulia’s body was found in a cardboard box – measuring 1m long, 0.75m wide and 0.75m deep – on the third floor. Kamrul Hasan was convicted of her murder in January 2010 and sentenced to hang.The High Court found that he had had sex with Miss Yulia before he strangled her and dumped her naked body at the scene.

Kamrul Hasan was convicted of her murder in January 2010 and sentenced to hang.
