Levine acted for free in musical Begin Again
Adam Levine revealed that he was not paid a single cent for acting in musical romance film Begin Again.
"I did this movie for no money. I'm very lucky that I'm in that position," he said in an interview with USA Today on Monday.
In his big screen debut, he plays rocker Dave who cheats on his college sweetheart Gretta (Keira Knightley) after finding fame with a record deal.
The Maroon 5 frontman and judge on The Voice said he did it for the experience and not for money.
"I want to have good experiences. I don't want to do a bunch of (expletive) that I hate," he said.
"I want to treat (acting) completely differently because I have the very fortunate luxury of not having to think of this in terms of money."
Surreal
In the interview, Levine, 35, also said acting was not his life-long passion.
"The oddest thing about being an actor was that I'm not an actor so being one was surreal," he said.
"It was literally as if I woke up one day and it was time to become an actor... So I was a bit freaked out."
On his love life, Levine remained tight-lipped, although Daily Mail reported that he will wed fiance Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo in Mexico later this month.
"Do you really think I'd tell you?" he said, without sharing more his wedding or honeymoon, despite being repeatedly asked by the press.
But he added: "She's incredible and that alone makes me the luckiest person in the world."
