Aguero rescues a point for City against QPR
QPR 2
(Charlie Austin 21, Martin Demichelis 76-og)
MAN CITY 2
(Sergio Aguero 32, 83)
Sergio Aguero was Manchester City's hero yet again after the striker equalised twice to salvage a point against Queens Park Rangers in a 2-2 English Premier League draw on Sunday morning (Singapore time) at Loftus Road.
Harry Redknapp's side took the lead on 21 minutes after Charlie Austin rifled a low shot past Joe Hart.
It was a third time lucky for Austin, who had a header chalked off for offside before a second strike was ruled out when Hart kicked the ball twice in the lead up.
Aguero then demonstrated his class when he controlled a long pass from Eliaquim Mangala to strike home his first goal after 32 minutes, although he received the benefit of the doubt from referee Mike Dean over a suspected handball.
The reigning champions found themselves behind again after 76 minutes when City defender Martin Demichelis diverted a whipped cross from Austin into the back of his own net.
However, the irresistible Aguero rescued a draw for the Citizens seven minutes after showing great skill to control a long pass from Yaya Toure to jink past QPR goalkeeper Robert Green and fire home.
Not thinking of Chelsea
While the result ultimately saw City fall eight points behind league leaders Chelsea despite Aguero's heroics, manager Manuel Pellegrini claims Jose Mourinho's side is not on his mind.
The Chilean, who had admitted that his side were experiencing a confidence crisis ahead of the match, said: "I'm not thinking about Chelsea. I'm thinking about my team. We have 27 games more and the championship is very long.
"For the moment, it's difficult to say it was two points lost because we came less than 72 hours (after Wednesday's Champions League match), (in a) very difficult moment.
"The way the game was during the 90 minutes, we deserved at least a draw. We had more chances to score.
"Of course I wanted the three points, but if you can't win it, it's better not to lose."
Important Aguero
Pellegrini also admitted that while Aguero was City's standout performer with 12 EPL goals this season, his team needs to step up to the same level.
He said: "In this moment he's a very important player for us.
"He needs the whole performance of the team to grow again as we normally play. A lot of offensive play.
"I am sure this will happen after the international break."
