Going the extra smile
Miss Universe Singapore 2016 finalists get treatments at Orchard Scotts Dental
Before the top 15 Miss Universe Singapore (MUS) 2016 finalists are ready to flash any winning smiles, they first had to make sure their teeth were in good shape.
That is why they paid a visit to Orchard Scotts Dental on Friday for dental treatments that would give them the perfect smiles.
Each girl received a routine check-up and consultation, and a take-home whitening kit to use every night until the big day on Oct 16.
The dental clinic is one of the official sponsors for MUS 2016.
Orchard Scotts Dental has been providing Invisalign services since 2007 , a corrective procedure that works like braces but camouflages itself in the mouth, becoming almost invisible.
It also provides dental implant and veneer services.
Trainee lawyer Nikki Tay chose to have veneers - porcelain shells that are attached to the surface of the teeth to change their shape, colour, length or size - done, apart from other treatments.
The 23-year-old told The New Paper that her teeth are discoloured because she was "a very sickly child" and had to take a lot of antibiotics.
Nikki added: "Ninety per cent of the time, I'm smiling. Patchy teeth look unhygienic... I've always wanted to have veneers, but never dared to pluck up the courage."
Hazel Tay, a 25-year-old data analyst, preferred the treatments by Orchard Scotts Dental over those of other clinics she had gone to in the past.
She said: "I got my mould done here (for the whitening kit). There were even fruit-flavoured moulds."
Dr Jerry Lim, one of the directors and dentists at the clinic, told TNP: "Confident smiles let you connect with others at a personal level. Especially in a pageant, nice smiles (allow the girls) to (truly) represent (who they are)."
