Cyclist's '$50,000' bike stolen as he fights with man
He was cycling around Marina Bay Sands (MBS) last Sunday on his ornate, custom-made bicycle, when he got into a scuffle with a man.
As they traded insults, Troy, as he wanted to be known, filmed the incident to use as evidence.
What he did not realise was that he was also filming someone cycling away on his bike.
The businessman, 40, said he was cycling on Sunday at around 6.50pm near South Coast bistro and bar.
Then, a man rushed towards him from a nearby pub.
Said Troy: "He pushed me to the ground as I was making my sixth round in the area.
"After that, he turned to his friends who was sitting at a nearby pub and laughed."
Troy immediately called the police.
Then he took his phone out and filmed the man who he said was trying to leave.
"He said that the music coming from my bike's speakers were annoying him. I told him that this is Singapore and that it is against the law for him to push me down like that no matter the circumstances."
But as the confrontation was going on, Troy saw a second man ride away on his bicycle, which he claimed is worth about $50,000.
"I tried to give chase, but stopped after a while as I realised I was not going to be able to catch him.
"I quickly called the police again as I was afraid that the man who pushed me would make his escape," he said.
When Troy finally found his bicycle with the help of the police the next day, it was lying in some bushes near MBS.
He said that the damage to his bicycle's speakers and the missing logos and crystals added up to about $5,000.
"It would take up to a month to get it repaired," he said.
Extensive modifications done to the bicycle over the past 11 years cost him a total of $50,600, he said.
The bike is adorned with stickers and logos, many of which are embellished with Swarovski crystals, he said.
Troy said the crystals set him back $16,000.
DREAM BIKE
He had gone to almost 50 shops in Singapore and China to get the parts.
"It is my dream bike. I planned its design long ago, but I did not have the money to build it then."
He has been receiving flak since his story went online.
Some netizens accused him of exaggerating the price of his bicycle and said that the money could have been used to buy a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Troy said: "I don't really bother about what they say. Most people don't have the time or money to do it. So they like to criticise."
The police said they are investigating both incidents.
