Taxi reverses 20m into void deck
She had been sleeping for close to an hour when a crash woke her.
When Mrs Lynn Tay, 44, and her family went downstairs to investigate, they found a Trans-Cab taxi at the void deck of her Yishun block.
It had slammed into the void deck, damaging pillars and concrete partitions of Block 433, Yishun Avenue 6.
The driver was still stunned and told Mrs Tay's husband, who did not want to be named, that he had accidentally reversed into the void deck in the incident which happened on Tuesday, at about 11.40pm.
Ms Ariel Lee, 46, an administrative staff, who took photos of the incident, said: "It was a big accident. I was surprised no one was injured.
"I have stayed here for 16 years and it's the first time I've seen anything like this."
RECOGNISED DRIVER
Mrs Tay, 44, a primary school bookshop assistant who has lived on the third storey of the block with her family for 14 years, said she and her husband recognised the taxi as its driver often parked there.
Mrs Tay's husband said he is on good terms with the driver, who lives in the same block, and has exchanged pleasantries with him in the past.
The cab had reversed all the way into the void deck, a distance of about 20m, having partially ploughed its way through a concrete partition, leaving red paint scuffs on nearby pillars.
Mr Tay said the driver had told him that he had accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes.
It is unknown if the driver was returning from a day's work or leaving for a night shift.
The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) both confirmed that no one was injured in the accident.
SCDF said one ambulance was dispatched, but its assistance was not required.
Police investigations are ongoing.
