West is best, even at basketball
Thanks to wifey Kim Kardashian, US rap mogul Kanye West celebrated his 38th birthday on Monday with a star-studded surprise basketball game thrown in his honour.
And here we thought nothing could top North West’s Kidchella birthday party when she turned one in June last year.
Yes, a wee tot had an extravagant Coachella-inspired carnival party to celebrate her first birthday, complete with a Ferris wheel and a karaoke stage.
But looks like North was outdone - by her own dad, no less.
His 34-year-old wife reportedly splashed a cool US$110,000 (S$148,000) to rent the entire Staples Center and invited all his famous friends like singer Justin Bieber and NBA player John Wall - and her Kardashian and Jenner posse, of course - so West could have a ball of a time.
It was Team West versus...
Team East. Of course. (Are we getting close to figuring out what North's new sibling will be called?)
Brilliant move, West, but that Eastie’s dramatic defense move (and fall) though...
Apparently, Justin Bieber was the game’s MVP, according to NBA player Dorell Wright who was present at the game.
“He definitely had the most points. It was between him and (rapper) Tyga. Tyga was talking about he had 30,” Wright told TMZ.
Bieber clearly had no mercy for the birthday boy, scoring double the points that West did.
Cheering the teams on were the Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Malika Haqq as well as the Laker Girls.
All of Me hitmaker John Legend sang “Happy Birthday” before West cut his cake while DJ A-trak enthusiastically mouthed the words behind his deck.
Because how boring would a simple birthday cake be? West got one designed to look like the Larry O’Brien Championship trophy.
In running for the “Best Birthday Present” title would be the series of video messages prepared by anyone from Shaquille O’Neal to Kobe Bryant which flashed on the big screen. O’Neal’s rap freestyle over Yeezus’ hit Runaway is as brilliant as his gigantic face plastered on the screen is creepy.
The final scoreline? 75-72, because West is Best in everything.
