Vape stores in Johor must close by Jan 1
The Sultan of Johor has announced a ban on sales of electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, in the state, to start by Jan 1, 2016.
The ban would cover all vaping products, reported The Star.
“I want the outlets to close down by Jan 1, 2016, and I do not want to hear any excuses," Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar said in an interview.
He has ordered the state executive council to meet next week to hasten the process.
“If we allow this to continue, we will be seeing a whole new form of addiction among our youth,” he said.
The Sultan said there would be long-term health effects of vaping and the medical cost, borne by taxpayers, would be staggering.
He warned that those who flouted the law after Jan 1 would face the consequences.
Johor will be the first state to ban the sale of e-cigarettes, reported Astro Awani.
