HIS EARLY YEARS
He is adored by the supporters of his team, having come through the youth ranks after a series of loan spells at lower-tier teams.
Whenever he scores, the chant rains down from the terraces, "He's one of our own".
However, photographs of him as a youngster decked out in the kit of his club's most hated rivals surfaced last year.
Addressing the issue, he said: "I was eight. I was at (rival club's name) for a year and, obviously, I was a kid, I just wanted to play football.
"I've been at (club's name) since I was 11, I've always loved the club. I've been here 10 years and, hopefully, many more years to come."
HIS STRENGTHS
When you say his name quickly, it sounds like a grim weather pattern.
With a combination of power and precision, many opposing teams have been struck down by this force of nature.
He has been described as a cross between Alan Shearer (for his finishing) and Teddy Sheringham (for his intelligence and link-up play) by former England striker Les Ferdinand, who has played with both of them.
Said Sheringham of him: "He's an outstanding player. As for being like me, he's probably got a little bit more than me. He can do everything I could, but he's got a bit of pace as well. He can go a long way."
Shearer, meanwhile, noted: "He should be the first name on the team sheet for England. I don't think anyone can argue with that.
"The question now is who plays with him if you play two up front? If you don't, then who plays behind him?"
HIS WEAKNESSES
His main drawback is a lack of pace. While he is no immobile target man, he doesn't possess the acceleration to beat his man.
Former Blackburn and England striker Chris Sutton said: "If he lacks anything - and he has almost everything - it is that blistering pace.
"I had limitations as a centre forward and a lack of pace was the main one.
"Most teams play one striker these days and he is well suited to the system because he can do most things really well, but he is not quick."
WHY HE'S FAMOUS
At club level, he is renowned for being a local lad who helped his hometown team challenge for their first league title since 1960/61.
He is also on the verge of becoming the first English Premier League Golden Boot winner since Kevin Phillips for Sunderland in 1999/00.
At international level, several prominent pundits have called for the 22-year-old to be England's first-choice striker at Euro 2016 in June, ahead of captain Wayne Rooney.
"He could go on to become a great goalscorer for his club and possibly England as well. I like him a lot. I like his movement, his work-rate, his desire to score goals and his confidence to take people on. He is good in the air, he has a good touch, he can beat people and he has clearly got a bit of intelligence. If he had an extra yard of pace, you would say he had everything."
- Former England striker Gary Lineker
