Develop grit through sport
Grit is a vital trait that can be fostered through sport. In his speech at the opening ceremony of this year's National School Games (NSG) at ITE College Central yesterday, Education Minister Heng Swee Keat emphasised the value of grit in a student.
He said: "Grit is more than resilience. When a student has grit, he is passionate about a long-term goal and perseveres towards it."
Mr Heng added that when students overcome challenges in the pursuit of their goals, they develop a stronger inner core to draw on in the future.
The NSG will see some 55,000 students participate in 28 sports from Jan 6 to Aug 29.
