Nigerian president assures players over World Cup bonuses
First Ghana, now Nigeria.
Nigerian footballers have become the next African players to be embroiled in row over cash after they boycotted training on Friday (Singapore time).
It forced the Super Eagles' head of state to assure them that they will be paid.
The BBC reported that the players' fears stem from the Confederations Cup last year, when they didn't get paid after the tournament.
With the Super Eagles due to face France in the Round of 16 on Tuesday morning (Singapore time), Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan has taken the unusual step of stepping in to assure the players that they will receive their money.
Ghana were also at the centre of row over cash, prompting the country's football association to airlift more than US$3 million (S$3.75 million) in cash on a chartered plane to Brazil to pay their appearance fees on Tuesday.
