Suarez bite appeal results imminent
The results of Luis Suarez's appeal against his ban for biting a player at the World Cup will be announced tomorrow (Aug 14).
The Uruguayan striker was slapped with a four-month ban from all football-related activities after he was found guilty of sinking his teeth into the shoulder of Italy centre-back Giorgio Chiellini during their Group D clash at the World Cup last month in Brazil.
Unable to train with his new teammates following his summer transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona, Suarez has taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in a bid to reduce his sanction after an appeal to world football governing body Fifa failed.
The CAS revealed that it will deliver its verdict tomorrow in a statement which read: "The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will announce its decision in the matter Luis Suarez, FC Barcelona & the Uruguayan FA on Thursday 14 August 2014 at around 3pm (Swizterland time - 9pm Singapore time). This case was heard on 8 August 2014 at the CAS offices in Lausanne."
Parting shot
Despite lighting up the English Premier League during his time with Liverpool, Suarez received a parting shot from the league's chief executive Richard Scudamore.
Speaking at the official launch of the new EPL season, Scudamore said: "I can't say that I'm sorry to see him go.
"(He was) great to have, but an accident waiting to happen - you are always waiting for the next thing to come along.
"And this one, in the summer, although it was with Uruguay, although at the World Cup, although it didn't directly involve the Premier League - clearly, Liverpool, as one of our great clubs, it reflected on them and it reflected on us.
"It was good business on a number of levels for Liverpool to move Luis Suarez on."
