UAE star Omar is AFC Player of the Year
Omar Abdulrahman was crowned the AFC Player of the Year in his home country of United Arab Emirates yesterday morning (Singapore time).
The 25-year-old left-sided midfielder and winger, who was recently named the Asian Champions League's best player, is the second Emirati to win the trophy in consecutive years.
Leicester City's Shinji Okazaki was crowned International Player of the Year, the award given to those who play in a league outside the AFC.
The Women's Player of the Year award went to Australian Caitlin Ford.
Choi Kang Hee of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors was awarded the top male coach title.
Chan Yuen Ting of Hong Kong was rewarded with the women's award for becoming the first woman to lead a men's team - Eastern Sports Club - in a country's top division to a league championship.
Meanwhile, AFC president Sheikh Salman confirmed the association's postponed Extraordinary Congress will be held next May, when it will elect members for the Fifa council.
The original meeting was postponed in September in protest by AFC members when Fifa disqualified Qatar's Saoud Al-Mohannadi, who was last month banned by Fifa for a year for refusing to help in an investigation, from standing for election. - AFP
