UPDATE: Luis Suarez surgery a success
First, he missed out on helping Liverpool to their first English league title in 24 years.
Now, Uruguayan superstar Luis Suarez could be in danger of missing out on the World Cup in Brazil.
The striker twisted his knee during a Uruguay training session on Wednesday and is reportedly set for surgery to correct the problem.
Despite the ominous news, the Uruguayan Football Association are optimistic about Suarez.
Uruguayan FA official Roberto Pastoriza said: "According to the report I received a while ago, they are optimistic that he can play the World Cup.
"Everything was very surprising, Suarez trained with discomfort and it was decided to have an MRI scan.
"The information until a while ago was that they were deciding what will be done, but there are very high chances there will be a surgical intervention.
"I can't say anything else, the Uruguayan FA will officially announce it on Thursday morning."
Keyhole surgery?
The BBC have reported that Suarez will undergo keyhole surgery to fix a damaged meniscus and the 27-year-old could struggle to be fit in time for Uruguay's opening game in Group D against Costa Rica on June 14 in Fortaleza, according to the Mail Online.
However, the talismanic striker could be available five days later for La Celeste's clash against England.
Suarez was one of Uruguay's key performers during the 2010 World Cup, helping his country finish fourth in South Africa.
UPDATE (May 23, 12.32am): Suarez has successfully undergone surgery, with the procedure revealing that the damage to striker's knee was not as bad as first feared.
Suarez's mother Sandra Diaz said: "The surgery is over and thank God everything went well. What Luis had wasn't as serious as we thought."
