WATCH: Fifa's Puskas Award nominees are in...but where's Singaporean Fabian Kwok's stunner?
Fifa has announced the year's best 10 goals nominated for the 2014 Puskas Award.
Featuring a wide range of strikes like Holland's Robin van Persie's outrageous header against Spain and *that* World Cup goal from James Rodriguez and even a fantastic entry from an Irish women's league match via Peamount United forward Stephanie Roche, the 10 entries are nothing to scoff at.
Take a look at all 10 of them via Fifa's YouTube playlist:
Fans have till Dec 1 to vote for their favourite goals and decide the top three before another vote is conducted to decide the winning goal, which will be revealed on Jan 12 along with the Fifa Ballon d'Or winner.
Even though I'm no football expert like the Fifa committee that nominated the top 10, I was a little bemused to find that Fabian Kwok's out-of-this-world volley from the half-way line missed out.
In case you're not sure of the screamer I'm talking about, here's a recap:
The goal was scored by the Geylang International midfielder during a 4-2 defeat to Albirex Niigata in the S.League on May 8 at the Jurong East Stadium.
Footage of the goal was featured around the world on websites like the Mirror Online, Bleacher Report and 101 Great Goals.
While Fifa could not confirm if Kwok's strike was considered for the shortlist, a spokesman for the world governing body told The New Paper in an e-mail that the nominees were decided upon by a panel of representatives from Fifa's various football committees and experts from France Football.
The spokesman said: "The people in the mentioned committees had to choose from a huge number of videos. Finally, they chose 10 finalists.
"The expert choices are subjective."
What do you think? Is Kwok's wonder goal better than any of the 10 nominees chosen by Fifa?
