World's top 10 for Women’s Champions event in S'pore
Top names set to light up Women's Champions tourney next month
She has been winless on the LPGA Tour for 18 months and just racked up her ninth second at the Pure Silk Bahamas Classic last week.
But American world No. 3 Stacy Lewis is looking to break her duck at the HSBC Women's Champions next month.
After all, she won here in 2013 and finished third last year.
The 30-year-old will have to contend with a star-studded field, though, as the world's top 10 women golfers - headed by New Zealand world No. 1 Lydia Ko - have confirmed their participation in the US$1.5 million ($2.11m) tournament at the Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong Course from March 3 to 6.
Said Lewis: "The HSBC Women's Champions is one of the toughest tournaments on the Tour, as the quality of the field is always exceptional.
"Lydia and (world No. 2 Park) Inbee are the in-form players - they are great competitors and deserving champions."
"But I am working hard on my game. I came in third last year behind them but I have won this before, so no reason why I cannot do it again," added Lewis, who finished behind champion Park and Ko last year.
The world's top three will be joined by American Lexi Thompson (No. 4), South Korea's Kim Sei Young (No. 5), Ryu So Yeon (No. 6), Kim Hyo Joo (No. 7), Amy Yang (No. 9) and Chun In Gee (No. 10), as well as China's Feng Shanshan (No. 8).
Paula Creamer, the 2014 champion and fellow American world No. 16 Brittany Lincicome - who won the ANA Inspiration last year - will also be in the mix for the title, while host-country qualifier Koh Sock Hwee will fly the Singapore flag.
China's Feng will be looking for her first win at Serapong, after finishing joint-second in 2012 and joint-fourth last year.
FAVOURITE
The 26-year-old Guangzhou native said: "The HSBC Women's Champions is one of my favourite tournaments on the Tour and one that I have been close to winning.
"Training has gone well over the off-season and I am looking forward to a good start in 2016.
"I am looking forward to catching up with my fans in Singapore and experiencing the new look and feel of the event."
Alongside the world-class golf, organisers have invited British boyband Take That to perform in Singapore for the first time in over 20 years.
On March 5, they will be on a custom-built stage at the Sentosa Golf Club's driving range, while acclaimed electronic dance music deejay Jack Novak - along with DJ Farz and DJ Li.A - will be spinning tunes at the end of play on all four days.
Monica Galetti, presenter and judge of MasterChef: The Professionals, will headline the culinary element of the four-day festival at the club.
Fans who visit the tournament will be among the first in Asia to taste the Samoa-born, London-based chef's recipes ahead of the opening of her restaurant MERE in the UK.
- Tickets for both the HSBC Women's Champions and the Take That concert can be purchased at www.sistic.com.sg
