Drone will be flying high
Speedster looms as day's Best Bet
It was just a week ago when Michael Clements pulled off a nice one-two with Siam Blue Vanda and Golden Years.
Glen Boss rode the winner while Vlad Duric was astride the beaten favourite.
Sometimes history repeats itself. Even recent history. And in Race 3 this evening I see it happening again.
Clements has got two really good ones in the race. One's a seven-year-old named Stockbroker while the other is a young phenom named Drone.
Of the two, I'm drawn to Drone and I reckon him to be good enough to dazzle over the sharp sprint.
Just turned three less than a month ago, Drone impressed me no end when winning on debut.
On that evening in April, with Boss in the saddle, he went to the front on jumping and played catch me if you can with the rest.
Of course they couldn't.
Indeed, the winning margin of half a length would have flattered the beaten brigade, headed by Monte Nerone.
Because, we all know, it was more comprehensive than that.
However and while he flew on that occasion, Drone could only hover in his three subsequent runs.
Still, I thought his last-start effort, when third to Loving You, on Aug 5 was a decent show.
Indeed, and had it not been for Thomas De Lago spoiling the party, Clements would have cemented another quinella.
Anyway, and like they say, let's try to find a winner before we attempt to find the first two across the line.
And that said, I will cast my vote for Drone. His precocious spirit and speed will make the difference. And yes, if you are so inclined, go ahead a have a flutter on a Clements one-two.
With the unpredictable weather that we have been getting these days, lightning could strike twice.
