Young Lions land $4m boost in S.League's biggest ever sponsorship deal
The Young Lions will now be known as the Garena Young Lions.
On Tuesday afternoon (Jan 2), the team signed a two-year deal worth up to $4 million with Garena, a local internet and mobile platform company.
As part of the deal, Garena will provide $2 million in cash sponsorship along with a programme budget of up to $2 million for the promotion and development of the team.
Young Lions acts as the Football Association of Singapore's (FAS) developmental team playing in the S.League,
The Garena Young Lions will also have the logo of Garena's e-commerce portal – Shopee – emblazoned across their kit this season.
RECORD DEAL
The sponsorship deal is believed to be the biggest for any team in the 21-year history of the S.League.
Forrest Li, founder and group CEO of Garena, said: "As a young company founded in Singapore, Garena has a deep sense of national pride.
"The Young Lions sponsorship will allow us to actively contribute to the local professional football scene and create opportunities for young athletes to pursue their dreams."
The Garena Young Lions kick off their S.League season on Feb 14 against Balestier Khalsa, and are set to unveil Frenchman Patrick Hesse as head coach, as exclusively reported by TNP earlier today.
