S'pore paddlers off to great start
Singapore's table tennis team are well on track to claim all seven gold medals at the 28th South-east Asia Games in Singapore, after convincing wins on the first day of competition today (June 1) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The paddlers won all their matches in the doubles - men's, women's and mixed - events, while Gao Ning thrashed Cambodia's Lim Sok Long 11-5, 11-7, 11-4 in 16 minutes in a men's singles Group D tie.
World No. 4 Feng Tianwei and 13th-ranked teammate Yu Mengyu are on course to win Singapore's first gold medal of the home Games, after their 11-8, 13-11, 11-6 women's doubles quarter-final win over Thailand's Orawan Paranang and Tamolwan Khetkhuan.
The Singaporeans will face Malaysia's Ho Ying and Lee Rou You in the semi-finals at 1pm on Tuesday (June 1), with the finals scheduled for 7pm on the same day.
