S'pore swimmers clinch two golds on first day
Singapore won two golds, two silvers and two bronzes on the first day of the South-east Asia (SEA) Games swimming competition tonight (June 6) at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.
Quah Zheng Wen (below) won the men's 100m back in a national and Games record timing of 54.51sec, while defending champion I Gede Sudartawa of Indonesia was second in 55.60.

The women's 4x100 free relay team won the Republic's other gold of the night.
The quartet of Nur Marina Chan, Amanda Lim, Hoong En Qi and Quah Ting Wen clocked 3min 46.60, some three seconds ahead of second-placed Thailand.
Zheng Wen, 19, also won a silver in the men's 200 free in a new national record of 1:49.17, although Vietnam's Hoang Quy Phuoc took the gold in a Games record of 1:48.96.
Lionel Khoo and Christopher Cheong finished second and third respectively in the men's 200 breast, in 2:16.66 and 2:16.99.
Debutante Quah Jing Wen ensured that all three Quah siblings won a medal on the first day of competition when she took a bronze in the women's 400 individual medley in 4:59.52.
The toast of the night, however, was Vietnamese swim sensation Nguyen Thi Anh Vien.
She clocked Games records of 4:42.88 and 8:34.85 in the women's 400 IM and 800 free respectively - both Games records - en route to claiming her gold medals.
