Suhairi, Theresa Goh shine at the Paralympic Games
Singapore's Suhairi Suhaini set a new personal best of 6.69 metres and finished eighth out of 12 athletes in the men's long jump T20 final at the Paralympic Games in Rio yesterday.
In the same event, held at the Olympic Stadium, Malaysia's Romly Abdul Latif stole the show when he jumped 7.60m to take the gold with a new world record.
Meanwhile, the Republic's Diroy Noordin finished in 11th spot in the men's javelin throw F40/41 final with a best effort of 22.71m. Iraq's Kovan Abdulraheem won with a distance of 42.85m.
In the boccia BC3 mixed pairs Pool B match, Nurulasyiqah Taha and Toh Sze Ning have qualified for the semi-finals where they will take on hosts Brazil's Antonio Leme and Evani Soares da Silva this afternoon.
The duo first edged out Greeks Anna Ntenta, Nikolaos Pananos and Grigorios Polychronidis 3-2 and then outclassed Portugal's Armando Costa, Jose Carlos Macedo and Mario Peixoto 5-1.
Despite a 3-1 defeat by Great Britain's Patrick Wilson, and Scott and Jamie McCowan, the Singaporeans still progressed as group winners.
WOMEN'S ARCHERY
In the women's archery individual compound open ranking round, Nur Syahidah Alim compiled a 626 total to finish 13th out of 17 athletes to advance to the elimination round of 16, which will be held on Friday.
Swimmer Theresa Goh comfortably made the final of the women's 100m breaststroke SB4 event.
She clocked a personal best of 1:54.50 sec touching the wall second out of 13 athletes overall to qualify for the final, which took place early this morning.
Maximillian Tan will also begin his Rio Paralympics campaign today in the equestrian team test - Grade Ib event.
