The Japan Warriors defeated the UAE Royals 23-20 yesterday, the final day of the Singapore leg for the International Premier Tennis League.
Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, playing for the Warriors, won the first match, beating the Royals' Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas 6-2 at the Indoor Stadium.
Kurumi Nara, who was playing for the Warriors, also shone as she took home a 6-0 win against former world No. 1 Martina Hingis.
Hingis, who looked tired after the match, had come on as a substitute for Ana Ivanovic, after a straight 3-0 rout by the Japanese.
The match between the OUE Singapore Slammers and the Indian Aces was still going on at press time.
The four teams will continue their battles in Hyderabad, India, where they will fight it out at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium from today until Sunday.
