Movie Review: New York New York (PG13)
All style and no substance - that is the best way to describe Chinese movie New York New York.
Its only saving grace is the cast of pretty faces and cinematic shots of bustling Shanghai and New York City.
The movie is set in the 1990s and Lu Tu (Ethan Ruan), the best hotel concierge in Shanghai, falls in love with the materialistic Ah Juan (Du Juan), who is desperate to carve out a better life abroad.
When businessman Mr Mi (Michael Miu) offers Lu a work visa to the US, the latter decides to give up the opportunity and hand it to Ah Juan instead.
All three leads look gorgeous here, but they cannot save the lacklustre script, awkward dialogue and erratic pacing.
Verdict: 2/5
