Movie Review: Out Of The Dark (NC16)
It's rather refreshing to see a Hollywood horror flick set in Latin America. If you're going to see ghosts, you might as well do it in Santa Clara, Colombia. At least the coffee won't suck.
Julia Stiles and Scott Speedman star as an American couple who relocate there with their daughter Hannah (Pixie Davis). But Hannah soon starts seeing otherworldly kids, suspected to be a group of children brutally murdered centuries ago. When she falls mysteriously ill and vanishes, her parents race to find her.
Out Of The Dark employs the usual scare tactics of creepy children and spooky legends. Stiles and Speedman are vastly overshadowed by their on-screen kid, who anchors the whole film and gives it depth. We don't want her to die, which is crucial to caring about the movie at all.
