Christina Milian reboots career with new reality show
If the title of her new reality TV series is anything to go by, Christina Milian is set to bring on her A-game this year.
After keeping a low profile in recent years, the US singer-actress is ready to reboot her life and music career.
All this will be documented in Christina Milian Turned Up, which premieres here next Tuesday at 10pm on E! Entertainment (StarHub Ch 441).
Milian will share her journey as she works on an album, her interaction with her family - "momager" Carmen, sisters Danielle and Lizzy, and five-year-old daughter Violet - and possibly give a teaser to her love life.
The 33-year-old rose to fame in the early 2000s with her hits AM To PM and Dip It Low.
She released three albums - Christina Milian (2001), It's About Time (2004) and So Amazin' (2006) - then went quiet on the music front. But she is ready to get back into action.
She said she needed the break to be herself again.
"I took time off to be human again and experience life outside of work," she said at the Christina Milian Turned Up promotional event in Los Angeles last week.
"At that time, I felt I was living my life just to work. I would go to 26 countries, do a billion interviews and photoshoots, but (I) never saw anything. I didn't even go out with my friends."
Milian also took the time to focus on being a mother to Violet after her marriage to US songwriter-producer The-Dream failed in 2010, after barely a year of marriage.
"I went on this whirlwind romance and wanted to focus on being a mother. Breast-feeding, cleaning and cooking," she said.
"Now I want to put that same energy into my work. I feel like I am seeing the world with the wonder of a child and I have the energy of a three-year-old."
Milian wants to be greater than she has ever been and aims to live life to the fullest.
She also dropped hints on her fourth album, which will be released this year, on US rapper and rumoured beau Lil Wayne's record label Young Money.
Milian has denied her romance with the 32-year-old, whom she collaborated with on his single Start A Fire.
"We have such great chemistry working together," said Milian.
"The song is about two people who are like fire when they are together, almost like a Romeo-and-Juliet story. People might not understand their love."
One can only wonder if she is hinting about their relationship, especially because she let on that all her records are a reflection of her life and are like diaries.
It is uncertain if Lil Wayne will feature on the new series, but Milian said her model BFF and Chris Brown's former flame, Karrueche Tran, will have some air time.
The pair, whose friendship Milian said "popped out of nowhere", have, of late, been close and often post photos of their girly outings on their Instagram pages.
CLASSY
Milian said that she is part of Tran's support system, after Tran's break-up with her US singer boyfriend last year.
"She's classy and does a good job of not paying attention to the haters," said Milian, who calls Tran her little sister.
"If she needs to talk about it, she'll bring it up or if necessary, I will.
"But being with each other, we don't think of the stuff and it's like a getaway."
Milian's family will play a big role in her reality show, which documents their every move, even their nasty fights.
If it calls to mind comparisons to E! show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Milian is quick to reassure viewers that there will be a slight twist.
"First of all, that is a compliment as I am a big fan," she said.
"But in my family, we handle things a little different. While the Kardashians communicate with each other, the Milians sometimes just scream at each other."
